The double hypernuclei /sub LAMBDA /He/sup 6/ and /sub LAMBDA LAMBDA Be/sup 10/ were anal yzed by using a purely attractive nonlocal separable potential. These double hypernuclei were considered as three-body ( LAMBDA + LAMBDA + alpha ) and fourbody ( LAMBDA + LAMBDA + alpha + alpha ) systems, respectively. A consistent description of both the systems was obtained for an intrinsic range b = 1.5 fm of the LAMBDA LAMBDA interaction in the /sup 1/S/sub o/ state. For the purely attractive Yukawa potential this corresponds to the two-pion-exchange range. The strength of the AA interaction deduced from the double hypernuclei was found insufficient to bind the two-body LAMBDA LAMBDA system. The lightest double hypernucleus that is expected to be bound is /sub LAMBDA LAMBDA /H/sup 5/. The heavier double hypernuclei /sub LAMBDA LAMBDA /C/ s up 14/ and /sub LAMBDA LAMBDA /O/sup 18/ were also analyzed. The binding- energies obtained are in reasonable agreement with those of earlier workers. (auth)
