A simple procedure has been developed for the quantitative determination of radioactive strontium in water which may he rich in calcium. Sr/sup 89/ and total radiostrontium may be obtained in about 5 hours, and Sr/sup 90/ may be estimated by allowing the precipitate to stand overnight and separating Y/sup 90/. The sensitivity is better one tenth of the internationally recommended maximum permissible concentration. The method is specific for strontium and suitable for large-scale, routine application. Radioactive berium may also be determined. (auth)
