The structure of high-frequency oscillations and the velocity distribution function for the beam electrons in a beam-plasma discharge in a magnetic fleld are investigated. The causes of the discrepancy between the experimental results and predictions of the nonlinear theory of interaction between the beam and plasma are elucidated. It is shown that the instability characteristics measured over short time periods are in agreement wtth the theoretical predictions. The structure of the high-frequency oscillations excited in the discharge indicate that the beam interacts with a finite number of discrete plasma oscillation modes randomly alternating in time. The instantaneous electron distribution function is a complex multi-peak curve. It is found that stochastization of the oscillations is due to development of instability by trapped particles in the nonlinear stag~ of beam instability. (auth)
