HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP IN A VERTICAL SQUARE TUBE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4334105
A 1/4-inch square venticai copper tube inside an 8-footlong shell wss found to transfer heat in much the same manner ss a round tube of equal hydraulic diameter. The pressure drop from the bottom to the top of the tube was measured for each operation. Heat flux was uniform throughout the length of the tube up to a steam-to-Freon temperature difference of 20 deg F. The range investigated was approximately from 10 deg to 20 deg F. Data obtained from a single rnn above 20 deg F, indicating that heat flux is not uniform above 20 deg , are in agreement with the results of previous studies. (auth)
