From international nuclear industries fair; Basel, Switzerland (16 Oct 1972). In early 1972 General Electric introduced the sixth generation of the boiling water reactor (BWR). Following Dresden 1 in the 1950's changes in the BWR have been made at discrete intervals in an orderly manner. The latest generation-- The BWR/6- in addition to producing about 20 percent more power for a given vessel size, results in significantly reduced peak cladding temperatures under loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) conditions. The emergency core cooling system (ECCS) performance for the BWR/6 as well as some of the key confirmatory tests which have been conducted on the ECCS performance are discussed. (6 references) (auth)
