From international nuclear industries fair; Basel, Switzerland (16 Oct 1972). A review of experience with BWR Zircaloy-clad UO/sub 2/ pellet fuel is presented. Experience on the design, manufucture, quality control, and operation of a large volume of Zircaloy-clad UO/sub 2/ pellet fuel over the past 10 to 12 years has provided favorable feedback on the adequacy of the design for a commercial power reactor environnient. Design and manufacturing improvements to minimize the incidence and effect of material variabiltties, flaws, and impurities which occur statistically in large volume production processes are discussed. 6 references.
