Progress is reported on production of Th from monazite, separation of Zr compounds from Hf compounds, production of stable slurries for homogeneous reactor use, recovery of U from phosphate ores, and fundamental studies of liquid- liquid extraction. A detailed progress report on two processes for the separation of Zr and Hf is presented namely, (1) silica gel adsorption and (2) liquid-liquid extraction, using tributyl phosphate-butyl ether solvent.
