Data on the effect of dilution of tributyl phosphate with dibutyl ether, role of HNO/sub 3/, and salting-out effects of Ca(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/ and CaCl/sub 2/ on the liquid-liquid extraction of Zr from Hf are listed. The effects of N/ sub 2/ and O/sub 2/ contamination, quality of the ZrF/sub 4/ used, and relative quantities of Zn, Ca, and I/sub 2/ on the hardness and corrosion rates of Zr metal produced by bomb-reduction methods are discussed. A phase diagram, photomicrographs, and discussion of phase structure of the Sn-Zr alloy are presented. For the ZrNb alloy, a tentrtive phase diagram for up to 25% Nb is given, with photomicrographs and tabulations of results of hardness tests, tensile properties, and corrosion resistance to 315 deg C distilled H/sub 2/O of low-Nb alloys. Corrosion rates in 600 deg F water of Zr-Sb alloys cortaining 1 to 5% are listed. Preliminary results of measuremerts of the liquidus curve of the Zr-C system, a brief account of studies on the possible effects of impurities in experimental determination of the Zr-O system, and a tentative phase disgram of the Zr-Ge system are included. Modification of the Ames reduction process for Th metal by substitution of Zn metal and I/sub 2/ for ZnCl/sub 2/ is discussed. Corrosion of Th in 315 deg C water is described. Experiments in the electrolytic preparation of Ti and V powdered metal suitable for vacuum sirtering are reported. (W.L.H.)
