The design of SIEMENS-PWRs is based upon 31/2 years operating the 330 MW(e) Obrigheim and upon the timely commissioning of the 630 MW(e) Stade nuclear power plant. For high reliability of reactor plant and fuel, proven components and design principles are retained wherever possible. By comprehensive safety R&D, licensability will be maintained regardless of site conditions. Unrestricted accessibility and spaciousness of the containment provide for good maintainability of SIEMENS-PWRs. Due to the fact that all nuclear power plants so far built by Kraftwerk Union AG. are turnkey-contracts, SIEMENS-PWRs represent an integral part of the plant and include a maximum of construction and operating experience.
