THE SOLID SOLUBILITY OF URANIUM MONOCARBIDE AND ZIRCONIUM CARBIDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4332978
Previous investigators have shown that the binary systems involving the monocarbides of zirconium, niobium, tantalum, titanium, and vanadium are of the solid solution type, with the exception of ZrC--VC which are almost completely insoluble in each other. In the present study it is shown that the monocarbides of uranium and zirconium are also soluble in each other and the variation of lattice parameter of the solid solution with composition conforms closely to Vegard's law.
