CO-PRECIPITATION OF LANTHANUM, CERIUM AND AMERICIUM WITH POTASSIUM SULFATE (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zhur. Neorg. Khim.
OSTI ID:4331983
In the coprecipitation of La, Ce, and Am with K/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, it was shown that the ions not only coprecipitated but that they also are adsorbed by crystalline deposits. Therefore, adsorption and crystallization were investigated separately. The specific surface of the adsorbent was calculated, and it was found that the quantity adsorbed increases with the concentration of the elements in the solution. The adsorption is not affected by the presence of foreign ions. From the study of the cocrystallization it appears that La, Ce, and Am are carried in the interior of the potassium sulfate crysial and distributed there. It is concluded that these elements form anomalous mixed crystals not having a lower boundary of miscibility. (J.S.R.)
