EQUILIBRIUM SPECTRUM AND DIFFUSION LENGTH IN NATURAL URANIUM

Journal Article · · Nuclear Sci. and Eng.
OSTI ID:4330641
Calculated and measured cross sections for Pu/sup 239/(n,f) U/sup 235/ (n,f), U/sup 238/(n,f), Np/sup 237/(n,f), U/sup 238/(n, gamma ), and Au/su p 197/ (n, gamma ) are compared. The calculated value of the equilibrium diffusion length in natural uranium of 8.5 cm is compared to the measured value of 9.6 to 10.0 cm. To bring the calculated and measured values into agreement would require a reduction of about 30% in the cross section of U/sup 238/. (W.D.M.)
