The fluorination of halogens by hexafluorides was examined. The oxidizing capacity of the hexafluorides decreases with respect 10 the halogens in the series PtF/sub 6/> PuF/sub 6/> UF/sub 6/> MoF/sub WF/sub 6/. In the reaction of uranium hexafluoride with I/sub 2/, iodine pentafluoride and the uranium fluoride U/sub 2/F/sub 9/ are evolved. (tr-auth)
