S>The nuclear emulsion method is used to study the ( pi /sup +/, pi /sup +/p) reaction on carbon at 60 and 112 MeV pion energies. The total reaction cross section is obtained as well as the momentum and angular distributions of the residual nuclei, the angular and energy distributions of protons, the pion scattering differential cross sections. Those distributions are compared with pole calculations and it is concluded that the pole mechanism dominates at small momentum transfers (smaller than 150 MeV/c). (auth)
