Estimated proved oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico, December 31, 1993

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:432735
Proved remaining recoverable reserves in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) as of December 31, 1993, have been estimated to be 2.14 billion barrels of oil and 29.1 trillion cubic feet of gas. These reserves are recoverable from 729 proved active fields located in Federal waters. There are an additional 81 unproved active fields with no reserves estimates, for a total of 810 active fields located in Federal waters. Proved original recoverable reserves are estimated to have been 11.15 billion barrels of oil and 136.8 trillion cubic feet of gas from 849 proved fields in the same geographic area. Included in this number are 120 fields that are depleted and abandoned; not included are the 81 unproved active fields. Estimates were made for individual reservoirs based on geologic mapping and reserve evaluation of 579 fields. Preliminary geologic studies were conducted for the remaining 270 fields. For purposes of this publication, only proved reserves are reported. Unproved reserves, associated with the 81 unproved active fields, are not added to proved reserves because of different levels of economic certainty and geologic assurance. For any field contained partly in State waters and partly in Federal waters, reserves are estimated for the Federal portion only.
