In health physics in the healing arts. The ANSI Standards Committee N44 is the national focal point for promoting and developing voluntary consensus standards pertaining to equipment and materiala for medical radiation applications. The committee's areas of concern include radioactive materials, accelerators, and x-ray equipment. The scope of the Nuclear Technical Advisory Board excludes the judgmental factors related to application of radiation to humans for medical purposes; that is, matters related to decisions to use radiation, to interpretation, and to diagnosis. Standards, therefore, concentrate on safe, efficient, and effective use of radiation, including radiation sources, equipment, facilities, protocols, and conditions of use. (auth)
