The method of preoperative local irradiation of the uterus by a protonic medical beam with simultaneous tele-gammatherapy of the areas of regional pelvic metastasization is described. A total of 35 patients suffering from cervix uteri cancer of the I and II degrees undervent complex treatment. Preopertive radiation therpy of the whole uterus was carried out in doses up to 300 rad including protonic irradiation with a one-time dose of 100 rd with intervals of 5 to 7 days. The areas of regional metastasization were subjected to telegammatherapy with a cummulative dose of 2000 to 2600 rad. with a daily focal dose of 200 rad with exclusion of the sphere of action of proton irradiation. Owing to scattered gamma-radiation, the dose in the rectum and urinary bladder was not higher than 200 to 300 rd. In 2 to 4 weeks following an extensive extirpation of the uters with adnexa no difficulties associated with irradiation were encountered during surgery. Cancer elements were not observed in excised material (16) cases during histological studies, in 19 cases there were revealed remnants of the tumor against the background of radiation changes. (auth)
