Presented at the International Conference on Neutron Interactions with Nucleus at Columbia University, New York, Sept. 9-13, 1957. The measurements described in UK/C-6/124 have been supplemented by a determination of the fission cross section of U/sup 233/ in terms of the activation cross section of gold. The same apparatus and procedures were used except that the gold foils instead of a fissile sample were placed on one side of the back-to-back ion chamber. It was found that the alpha -particle efficiency was increased over the nominal 2 pi geometry by lowangle back-scattering and that the geometrical efficiencies were equal. Four independent determinations of the U/sup 233/cross sections were in good agreement, the mean result being sigma /sub f/ = 524 plus or minus 4 b. (A.C.)
