THE GALVANIC CORROSION PROPERTIES OF TITANIUM AND TITANIUM ALLOYS IN A SALT- SPRAY ENVIRONMENT

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4324845
It has been found, in galvanic couple tests, that commercially pure Ti and four Ti alloys galvanically accelerate the corrosion of Mg alloys, Al alloys, mild steel, and a straight Cr stainless steel in a salt-spray environment. These same Ti materials showed little or no galvanic effect when coupled to an l8-8 stainless alloy, Monel, or 17-7PH stainless steel in this enviromment. These experiments also indicated that Ti has slightly less tendency to promote galvanic corrosion than l8-8 stainless steels when compared under salt-spray conditions. (auth)
