Thermal expansion and magnetostriction in rare-earth equiatomic compounds with Cu, Ag, and Zn

Journal Article · · Phys. Status Solidi (a), v. 21, no. 1, pp. 161-166
The ferromagnetic compounds TbZn and DyZn exhibit a large quadratic distortion in the ordered range of opposite sign than in the antiferromagnetic compounds TbAg and TbCu. The absence of a distortion in DyCu and DyAg confirms a noncolinear magnetic structure. An interpretation is given of distortion in terms of crystalline field and variation of the interactions with distance. (5 figures) (auth)
