Translated from Kosm. Issled.; 11: No. 4, 559-562(1973). The mechanism of nonadiabatic proton losses from the radiation belts is considered. It is shown that D/sub st/ variations in the geomagnetic field lead to a nonadiabatic decrease in the intensity of protons with energies of several tens of MeV. (auth)
