PROPORTIONAL COUNTER FOR MEASUREMENT OF WEAK ACTIVITIES OF SOFT $beta$ RADIATION (in German)

Journal Article · · Helvetica Physica Acta (Switzerland)
OSTI ID:4322302
In many measuring devices the dead time is reduced by heawy shielding or by having a ring of counters connected in anticoincidence. A description is given of a proportional counter in which the anticoincidence device is built directly into the counting tube and is separated from the counting volume proper by a thin foil. The counter characteristics and the dead time were determined. Calculations for the optimal foil thickness are shown. A comparison of this counter with others shows that only the De Vries counter (Nuclear Phys. 3, 65 (1957)) has less dead time. (J.S.R.)
