The photodisintegration of the deuteron in the medium energy range using the Gartenhaus wave function for the deuteron and the Gartenhaus plus spin-orbit wave functions for the final states has been calculated. The results are in good agreement with expsriment. It is shown that the cross sections are sensitive to the triplet odd scattering phsse shifts and the D-state probabillty, but rather insensitive to the detailed shapes of the wave functions. The results indicate that lt ls not necessary to relinquish Siegert's theorem in order to explain the large isotropic term in the angular distribution in this energy region, provided one assumes a rather high percentage of D state (7%) for the ground state of the deuteron. (auth) compares the present measurements with predictions based on more reslistic models of the nucleus. (auth)
