TRANSMUTATION OF NITROGEN BY PROTONS FROM 100 kev TO 135 kev

A portion of the excitation curve of the thermonuclear reaction N/sup 14/ (p, gamma )O/sup 15/ was measured using protons of 100 to 135 kev. The cross section of this reaction ranges from (8.5 plus or minus 3.7) x 10/sup -12/ b at 1OO kev to (1.4 plus or minus 0.3) x 1O/sup -10/ b at 135 kev. The approximate constant S/sub o/ is defined by S/sub o/ = E/sub sigma / exp rgy in the centerof- mass system and is measured in kev, sigma is in barns, A is the reduced mass of the interacting nuclei, and Z/sub p/ and Zn are the nuclear number of protons and nitrogen, respectively. Based upon these measurements, S/sub o/ = 2.7 plus or minus 0.2 kev-b. (auth)
