RADIATIVE CAPTURE OF PROTONS IN OXYGEN AT 140 TO 170 kev

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The thick-target yield of the reaction O/sup 16/ (p, gamma )F/sup 17/ was measured by bombarding Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ targets with protons from 140 to 170 kev using currents from 3 ma to 10 ma and counting the induced positron activity of the F/sup 17/. The thick-target yield ranges from (1.9 plus or minus 1) x 10/sup -17/ beta/incident proton at 140 kev to (1.47 plus or minus 0.15) x 10/ sup -16/ beta/incident proton at 170 kev. The corresponding cross sections are (4.6 plus or minus 2.4) x 10/sup -11/b at 140 kev and (2.34 plus or minus 0.3) x 10/sup -10/b at 170 kev. The activity was identified by observiang the half-life. The cross section factor S/sub o/ was found to be 6.8 plus or minus 1.4 kev-b between 140 annd 170 kev bombarding energy. (auth)
