THE PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF EUROPIUM
A quantity of 70.4 g of europium metal of high purity was prepared by heating Eu/sub 2O/sub 3/ with lanthanum metal in vacuo at 1200 d C. The properties determined are listed. Vapor pressure was determined as a function of temperature. The data were fltted to a straight line, yielding the formula log P/sub mm/= (--8982 plus or minus 16)/T - 18.160 plus or minus 0.027). The other properties determined are as follows: melting point, 826 plus or minus 10 d C; boiling point (calculated). 1489 d C; lattice constant at 298 d C (bcc lattice), 4.5820 plus or minus 0.0004 A; density at 298 d K (calculated), 5.245 g/cm/sup 3/; heat of sublimation at 298 d K, 42.066 plus or minus 75 (calculated); ((((((((Abstract unscannable))))))))))
