GAMMA-RAY BRANCHING AND SOME SPIN AND PARITY ASSIGNMENTS IN B$sup 1$$sup 1$

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
In this set of experiments each level of the gamma spectrum, obtained principally from the Be/sup 9/(He/sup 3/,p/ gamma )B/sup 11/ reaction, was separated from the others by coincidences measured with the appropriate proton group. Many of the branching ratios are in excellent agreement with Kurath's theoretical values if the spin-orbit coupling parameter has a value near 4.5. The Ml matrix element for the 7/2- deg C was con- 5/2- transition vanishes so that the strong E2 transition of the 6.76-Mev state to ground state compared with the Ml transition to the 4.46-Mev state is quite reasonable. The E2/Ml amplitude ratio of the 4.46-Mev gamma ray deducted from its angular distribution is 0.14 + 0,01 compared with Kurath's 0.21, The 5.03Mev- and 7.30-Mev branching agrees with the tentative assignments 3/2-* and 5/2-*, respectively. The * indicating the second state of spin and parity. (T.B.A.)
