INELASTIC SCATTERING OF NUCLEONS AND DEUTERONS FROM SPHEROIDAL NUCLEI
A direct interaction theory of the inelastic scattering of nucleons and deuterons from strongly deformed nuclei of A approximately 25 is proposed. The nucleus is described by ihe strong coupling approxinnation of ihe unified nuclear model. Two alternative forms of the transition operators are discussed: ihe projectile-surface interaction and the interparticle forces (projectile-target nucleons). Both the rotational and the individual particle excitations are discussed. As an example of the recent data on the Mg/sup 24/ (d,d' ) and Mg/sup 24/(p,p' ) reactions are considered. Angular correlations with gamma 's are discussed. The case of the 2+ (rotational level) at 200 deg C an 0 + E2- radiation is considered in detail. (auth)
