PREDICTIONS ON THE CHEMICAL BEHAVIOR OF IODINE IN AN LMFR FUEL

Experimnents were performed to determine the concentrations of fission product iodine in a LMFR U-- Bi-- Mg-Zr fuel mixture. Measurements of the I/sup 131/ concentration were made in the gas space above the liquid metal in the surge tank and also in the flowing metal. Results indicate that the possibility of volatilizing the great bulk of the I/sup 131/ from an LMFR fuel does not appear likely. (W.L.H.)
