Direct and indirect effect of gamma irradiation on the differentiation of tobacco tissue culture

Tobacco tissue culture (Nicotiana tabacum var. Wisconsin No. 38) when grown on Murashige and Skoog medium readily developed leafy buds in light but not in darkness. When gamma -irradiated over a range 0 to 5.0 Krad, the cultures differentiated in darkness too. Furthermore, the stimulus for differentiation in darkness could be transmitted to non-irradiated cultures by the irradiated medium. (auth)
