The preferred orientation in extruded sintered compacts Mg-2% He, Mg-- 0.5% MgF/sub 2/, and Mg-0.1. 0.3. and 5% MgO was investigated. After extrusion, there is a very sharp fiber texture with the fiber axis (parallel with the extrusion direction) along the <1010> direction. After secondary recrystallization. the fiber axis is oriented along the <1120> direction. The time dependence of the recrystallization process is considerably influenced by the dispersed phase content and morphology. Finally, the plastic deformation of the textured compacts is discussed briefly. (auth)
