Lanthanoid(II) or -(III) alkoxide-promoted reactions of silyl ketene acetals with aldehydes

The authors report that samarium(II) compounds promote aldol reactions of silyl ketene acetals with aldehydes. The stereochemistry of the process was investigated and routes to selected enantiomers were found. 4 tabs.
