NEUTRON-DEFICIENT IRIDIUM ISOTOPES

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
A study was made of the isotopes of iridium which are produced from natural rhenium by irradiations with alpha partiches in the energy range 25 to 45 Mev. The known iridium isotopes of masses 190, 189, and 188 were observed, and in addition I/sup 187/, Ir/sup 186/, and I/sup 185/ were identified by meaas of the threshold energy for their production. Analyses are based upon scintillation spectra and conversion electron spectra taken with highresolution permanent-magnet spectrographs. The interesting situation is encountered in which the three isotopes Ir/sup 187/, Ir/sup 186/, and Ir/sup 185/ all have very similar halflives: Ir/sup 187/, 13 hours; Ir/sup 186/, 16 hours; and Ir/sup 185/, 15 hours. A preliminary study of the radiations from the odd mass isotopes was made, and also some new transitions in Ir/sup 186/, Ir/sup 286/, and Ir/sup 190/ are reported. (auth)
