ANGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF PROTONS INELASTICALLY SCATTERED FROM Si$sup 28$ AND Mg$sup 2$$sup 4$

The angular distributions and the excitation curves of protons inelastically scattercd from Si/sup 28/ (Q = --1.78 Mev) and Mg/sup 24/ (Q = -- 1.37 Mev) have been measured in the energy range E/sub p/ = 4.8 to 5.7 Mev. A broad resonance was observed in each excitation functions. The angular distributions in Mg/sup 24/ show an asymnetry about the center-of-mass scattering angle THETA = 90 deg and a strong dependence with the energy of incident protons, while in Si/sup 28/ the angular distributions are more symmetric than in Mg/sup 24/.
