>This apparatus is intended to produce a plasma of 1000 amperes of 100 Mev electrons and an equal numher of neutralizinig ions. Some novel features of the design are: the use of a single one-turn coil to provide the entire accelerating and guide fields of the apparatus; guiding magnetic fields and accelerating electric fields larger than those used in accelerators at present; and plasma injection to get the necessary number of particles into the plane where they will he aocelerated. The physical principles of the Megatron are presested and energy storage, injection and the field coil are discussed. (M.H.R.)
