PROCEDURE FOR MEASURING FREON 114 LEAK RATES IN CASCADE COOLANT CONDENSERS BY THE GAS DILUTION METHOD
The gas dilution method for the measurement of Freon leak rates to the water side of cascade coolant condensers has been tested on various condensers in the X-333 building and on one condenser in the X-330 building. The gas dilution method involves injecting Freon 115 (CClF/sub 2/--CF/sub 3/) into the water inlet of a condenser suspected of leaking Freon 114 (mixture of CClF/sub 2/-CClF/sub 2/ and CCl/sub 2/F--CF/sub 3/). It is assumed tht the two gases mix uniformly in the condenser before a gas sample is withdrnwn from the three-way vent line valve. Knowing the rate of Freon 115 infection, and measuring the ratio of freon 114 to Freon 115 in the outlet gag sample by an infrared method to be described, the Freon 114 leak rate can be calculated accurately.
