In order to estimate the decay constant for the K capture of Ta/sup 180/ by the detection of Hf/sup180/, the hafnium content of a tantalite mineral, previously investigated to determine the beta decay (Z. Naturforsch. 1Oa, 796 (1956)), was determined. From the analytical data and the kmown age of the tantalite mineral, the decay constant for the K capture of Ta/sup 180/ was determined with lambda /sup k/= 1.5 x 10/sup -10/ yr/sup -1/ as the upper limit.
