The activity of adenosinetriphosphatase (ATPase) in the spleen and liver was determined in white mice after whole-body irradiation. The doses of whole- body irradiation were 200 r, 600 r, 2000 r, 8000 r, 40,000 r, and 50,000 r. After 1 to 2 hours no change in the activity of ATPase was observed. 24 and 48 hours after irradiation the enzymne activity in the spleen was significantly increased, but no significant changes were observed in the liver. The increase of ATPase- activity in the spleen after irradiation was practically independent of the dose. The results demonstrate that there is no direct effect of radiation on ATPase. (auth)
