A moderated BF/sub 3/ detector was developed for meas uring fust neutron dose, flux and average energy in the laboratory. It is being used for measuring dose in field conditions as well, in spite of its directional cylindrical geometry and its weight, because it is very sensitive to neutrons and quite insensitive to gamma radiation. This instrument, called the "double moderator" and consisting of a "fluxmeter" and a "dosimeter," was calibrated with monoergic neutrons from an accelerator and with neutrons from radioactive sources.
