($gamma$,p) REACTIONS IN Na$sup 23$, K$sup 39$, I$sup 127$ AND Cs$sup 13$$sup 3$

Proton spectra of K/sup 39/( gamma ,p)Ar/sup 38/, Na/sup 23( gamma ,p)Ne /sup 22/ I/sup 127/( gamma ,p)Te/sup 126/ and Cs/sup 133( gamma ,p)Xe/sup 132/ reactions have bee n investigated by irradiating KI(Tl), Nal(Tl) and CsI(Tl) crystals by Li(p, gamma ) gamma rays, and the corresponding cross sections have been determined. Electron background was reduced by placing a guard crystal in front of the target crystal. Approximate cross sections are 5 mb for Na/sup 23/( gamma ,p ) and 1.5 gamma 0.6 mb for I/sup 127/( gamma ,p) and Cs/sup 133/( gamma p) reactions at 17.6 Mev gamma -energy. The proton spectrum of K/sup 39/( gamma ,p) reaction shows peaks at 6.1, 9.2 and 11 Mev corresponding to the 5, 2.15 and 0 Mev levels of Ar/sup 38/. The I/sup 127/( gamma ,p) and Cs/sup 133/( gamma ,p) spectra are inconsistent with the statistical theory owing to the effect of direct interaction. (auth)
