GAS COOLED NATURAL URANIUM REACTORS FOR LARGE POWER STATIONS. THREE DESIGNS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4282222

Two designs of heavy-water-moderated carbondioxide-cooled reactors and one graphite-moderated carbon-dioxide-cooled reactor are discussed. The designs are in a preliminary state and are to be regarded as feasibiliiy studies. The three proposals that are described are: one reactor with 100-bar CO/sub 2/ as the coolant and of pressure tube design and one with 70-har CO/sub 2/ and pressure vessel design, both with heavy water moderator); and one reactor with 60-bar CO/ sub 2/ as the coolant, graphite for the moderator, and a rock excavation for the pressure vessel. The plants are rated at 120 to 140 Mw(e), 180 Mw(e), and 275 Mw(e), respectively. (W.D.M.)
