Traces of bromine in uranyl nitrate and hydrolyzed uranium hexafluoride solutions are determined by simultaneous oxidation of bromide with nitric acid- potassium permanganate and extraction of the bromine with carbon tetrachloride, reaction of the bromine with fluorescein to form eosin, and spectrophotometric determination of the eosin. With less soluble compounds, uranium dioxide, trioxide and tetrafiuoride, a preliminary distillation step must be incorporated.
