BELLOWS EXPANSION JOINTS FOR GAS DUCTING

Journal Article · · Nuclear Power
OSTI ID:4276944
Bellows joints for gas ducting in the Berkeley, Hunterston, and Hinkley Point nuclear power stations are described. Tests on the 5 ft 6 in. Hinkley Point bellows are discussed. These included a life test at 230 psi, 770 F, and a bursting test. Both tests were to destruction. The bellows tested was:1/8 in. thick of l%fl Cr, O.5%fl Mo steel, heat treated after forming. Convolutions were of about 1 1/2 in. pitch with a height of 2: 1/2 in. Eight convolutions were used for the life test and 5 for the bursting testing. The tests were considered very satisfactory.
