CROSS SECTIONS OF U$sup 235$ AND Th$sup 232$ FISSION BY 14.6 Mev NEUTRONS (in Russian)

The cross sections of U.supo 235/ and Th/sup 232/ fission by 14,6Mev neutrons were measured. The cross section of U/sup 235/ flssion was determinod in relation to the U/sup 238/cross section. The specimens were placod intermittently into the neutron flux from a (d,t) reaction. A proportional counter recording alpha particles from T(d,n)Hel was used as the monitor. The cross section obtained was (2.30 plus or minus 0.15) barns. The cross section of Th/sup 232/, measured with an ionization charnber placed in a 14.6-Mev neutron flux, was (0.37 plus or minus 0.02) barns. The results are in good agreement with published data.
