THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF NbOCl$sub 3$

Journal Article · · Acta Cryst.
ABS>NbOCl/sub 3/ crystallizes in the tetragonal space group. P4/sup 2// mnm. There are four formula units in the unit cell with a/sub 0/ = 10.87 and c/ sub 0/ = 3.96 A. This compound forms peculiar polymeric chains of NbOCl/sub 3/ dimers. The dimer has the same shape as the NbCl/sub 5/ dimer which has been described as two octahedra sharing an edge. These NbOCl/sub 3/ dimers form infinite linear chains along the c/sub 0/ direction through Nb-O-Nb bonds. (auth)
