THE SPECIFIC ACTIVITY OF RADIUM

Journal Article · · Intern. J. Appl. Radiation and Isotopes
BS>A critical assessment has been made of the published information on disintegration energies in the radium series, and a value obtained for the mean energy deposition per radium disintegration in sealed sources of known history. This, when combined with Mann's recent calorimetric measurements on the heating effects in several national primary radium standards prepared by Honigschmid, gives a value for the specific activity of radium of 3.655 x 10/sup 10/ disintegrations per second per gram, corresponding to a disintegration constant of 4.326 x 10/sup -4//year, or a half life of 1602 years.
