The N4 1450-MW(electric) series: The new generation of French PWRs
- Electricite de France, Paris (France)
The French nuclear power plant program was launched in 1970 and subsequently stepped up in 1974. Today, 75% of the electricity produced in France is generated by nuclear power plants. The pressurized water reactor (PWR) series operating in France are the following (years of connection to the grid are included in parentheses): (1) 900 MW(electric) a. CP0: 6 units (1977-1979) b. CP1: 18 units (1980-1985) c. CP2: 10 units (1981-1987) (2) 1300 MW(electric) a. P4: 8 units (1984-1988) b. P4: 12 units (1988-1993). Electricite de France (EdF) is now commissioning the N4, a new series of 1450-MW (electric) plants of entirely French design. This series includes four units: two on the site of CHOOZ and two on the site of CIVAUX.
