THE EFFECT OF FLUOROCHROMES ON THE SENSITIVITY OF CELLS TO RADIATION

Journal Article · · Soviet Phys. (Doklady)
OSTI ID:4261460
Experiments were made on a single culture of Paramecium caudatum using Aleksandrov's method in Lozina-Lozinski's medium in darkness at 22 C to determine the effect of hematoporphyrin, trypaflavine, and fluorescein on the radiosensitivity of the cells. The cultures were exposed to 100 kr of x rays. The results showed that the dose caused a noticeable reduction in the rate of division of the infusoria on the first day after treatment, but on the second day the rate of division had returned to normal. When direct illumination was excluded, the dyes by themselves caused no harmful effects. (J.S.R.)
