X radiation induces certain stable chemical changes in aqueous solutions which have a toxic effect on the Paramecium caudatum. Paramecium exposed to x radiation are more sensitive to the affects of irradiated aqueous media. The aqueous solution inhabited by infusoria previously to x irradiation is less toxic than irradiated pure water. (R.V.J.)
