With a magnetic atomic beam resonance apparatas, the high-frequency transitions between the Zeeman components of various hyperfine structure terms ( DELTA F = 1 transition) in magnetic fields between 10 and 15 gauss and the transitions between the Zeeman components of a single hyperfine structure term ( DELTA F = 0 transition) at field strengths between 470 and 490 gauss were measured in both ground states /sup 2/D/sub 3/2/ and /sup 2/D/sub 5/2 of the Y/ sup 8 9/ atom. The magnetic hypenfine structure splitting factor was determined as --(57.217 the J-57 engin 0.05) Mhz for the /sup 2/D/sub 3/2/ state and -- (28.749 the J-57 engin 0.030) MHz for the /sup 2/D/sub 3/2 state. The yttnium atomic beam was detected with a universal detector.
